Monster Digital announced the debut of the Villain, its first in a new line of feature packed and versatile action sport cameras.

Villain, a 1080p/30 camera includes a 32GB microSD card and a complete kit of accessories to ensure great shots right out of the box. Its 2″ LCD screen allows users to see what they are capturing with the 5-megapixel sensor. Photos can be controlled with a self-timer, two high-speed burst modes and a variable time-lapse mode. Villain also has a unique “dash-cam” mode that starts and stops recording automatically, records 3-minute video files continuously and overwrites the oldest file when the memory card is full.

With the focus on a fantastic user experience, 15 mounts and accessories are included. Mounts for handlebars, helmets, boards and tripods; a versatile suction cup mount; and finally a sturdy floating housing, waterproof to 100 feet.

Recording time is about 2 hours and 45 minutes with its rechargeable li-ion battery. Since the battery is removable, shooting can continue with a quick battery swap. Additional batteries and an array of accessories are available, sold separately. Recording time on the included 32GB Sport Series memory card is about 5 hours in 1080p and 7 hours in 720p video modes. With the MSRP of $169.99, Villain aims to make a true high-performance action sport camera more accessible to consumers.

Monster Digital entered the action sports market two years ago with their “Sport Series” memory cards, purpose built for action sports cameras. President Vivek Tandon noted, “Over the last couple of years we observed some opportunities in the action sport camera market. Not everyone can afford or wants to spend $400-500 on a sport camera, memory and mounts, so we developed a solid performing camera at an affordable price with great features. As an enthusiast myself I know how great it is to record your activities and Villain is the way to get more people into it.”

CEO Jay Tandon said, “Camera technologies available today are amazing and we’re making it affordable for just about anyone to get started filming their action sports. We are extremely excited about our first camera and we think consumers will be too.”

Villain is shipping now and available for sale at MonsterDigital.com, Fry’s Electronics, MicroCenter, Amazon.com, B&H Photo, and NewEgg.
